Enjoying the nice weather

Glorious warm weather - got the hammock out for the first time this year. Bliss...

I also recently spent a day in Birmingham at a workshop by David Hobby, creator of the Strobist movement. It was very inspiring and I really liked the little bit I saw of Birmingham too. It's full of amazing victorian buildings and also impresive canals and viaducts like this one. The drawing doesn't really get the scale across. It was about 5 stories high and stretched for such a long way - that's a lot of bricks...

Just around the corner was this pub, nearly 400 years old. Only had a few minutes to sketch it unfortunately. If you google streetmap Gibb Street Birmingham you'll probably find both of these places...

Blimey, 2 posts in 2 days. I was in London today and found some time to experiment a bit more with the watercolours. These took about 35 mins each - except for the girder which was 5 mins. Firstly, Edgware Road Station...

... next, The Grand Junction Arms...
... and a collection of girders supporting the roof of Padington Station...

Langford Court - a big country house near us had an open day at the weekend. After eating cakes in it I did a quick sketch of the orangery with a brush pen.

I've also been tinkering with a pentel water brush and a little set of watercolours. It's quite fun - especially when you're in a nice warm pub...
